Arts Underground

The Arts Council of Greater Palatka’s Arts Underground After-School program at the Larimer Arts Center, 216 Reid Street in Palatka, begins Monday October 24th. The program will be Mondays and Tuesdays from 4PM to 5:30 PM and will feature Art and Drama classes for elementary and middle school students. The Arts Council is dedicated to youth education while keeping the cost as low as possible. The $20 per month fee includes art and drama. Scholarships for free attendance are also available. Middle school art classes will be on Mondays while drama classes will be on Tuesdays. Elementary art classes will be on Tuesdays and drama on Mondays.

The Arts Underground After School Program is designed to be fun while supplementing the children’s academic curriculum. The Arts Council uses a S.T.E.A.M. approach. Simply put, this allows the arts to be taught in a way that also includes learning principals of science, technology, engineering, and math (S.T.E.M.). While the focus is on having fun learning art and drama, S.T.E.M. is introduced into the projects. For example, theater lighting for a skit can become a lesson in engineering, or learning the ratios involved in drawing a face can also be a lesson in math. The purpose of the program is not only to provide a productive fun after school activity, but to give the students a boost with knowledge they can take back to the classroom at school.

2017- 2018 program TBA.
